I re-watched the movie this week, and the 1st of the new tv series as well. I can’t remember the first time I saw this film, but it was a long time ago. The “window dressing” (clothes, hair, house decoration) may be a bit outdated, but the themes contained in the film are still as relevant and as they were originally. The film ends very sentimentally, but I’m a sucker for a happy ending.

I’m trying to remember one of the last “lessons” from grandma in the film – life being like a rollercoaster. Yes, it goes up and down and lurches around,  and occasionally it can be a bit scary. But you need to hang on and enjoy the ride – cause it’s so much more interesting and rewarding than staying safe and predictable, avoiding anything that may bring joy due to fear of the unknown.

I don’t often take life lessons from film or tv. But anything that reminds you to embrace life in all it’s fullness (especially when you feel a bit like you’re struggling and overwhelmed at present) has got to be celebrated!

It’s a happy co-incidence that Ruby and Gannon have their thumbs up yesterday at morning tea time, and I decided to use these pics for writing this post today.
